Who we are

CountyAtlas is an independent reference site for U.S. county maps and data, operated by Moving Data Systems d.o.o., a company based in Slovenia (European Union). It is the “controller” of any personal data described here. This policy covers the website at countyatlas.org and is provided for transparency; it is not legal advice.

Advertising & tracking — none currently

CountyAtlas is currently ad-free. It does not display third-party advertising, does not use advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies, and does not sell or share your personal information. There are no ad networks, data brokers, or consent-management pop-ups on the site.

If advertising is introduced in the future, this policy will be updated before ads go live to name any advertising partner, describe the cookies and data involved, and provide your opt-out choices — and the “last updated” date above will change. Until you see that, none of it is running.

What we collect

CountyAtlas has no user accounts and no login. We collect very little:

• Server logs. Like almost all websites, our hosting provider automatically records standard request data — your IP address, browser/user-agent, the page requested, and a timestamp — used to serve the site, keep it secure, and diagnose problems. These logs are retained only for a limited period.
• Location-tool input. The “what county / city / state / district am I in?” tools work two ways. If you ask a tool to use your device location, your browser first asks your permission, then shares your coordinates for that one lookup. If you type an address or place, that text is sent to our server and on to the U.S. Census Bureau Geocoder to resolve it. We use this input solely to compute your answer in that session; we do not use it to identify you, we do not build a profile, and we do not store your precise location beyond the request. The Census Geocoder is a U.S. government service subject to its own terms.

We do not sell products, take payments, or ask for your name, email, or account details to use the site.

Cookies

CountyAtlas uses only the cookies or local storage strictly necessary to run the site and remember a display preference (such as light/dark theme). It sets no advertising, analytics, or cross-site tracking cookies. You can block or delete cookies in your browser at any time; the site will still work.

Your rights (EU/UK — GDPR)

Because CountyAtlas is operated from the European Union, the EU General Data Protection Regulation (and the UK GDPR) applies. You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or erased, to restrict or object to its processing, and to data portability. We process the limited data above on the basis of our legitimate interest in operating and securing the site, and — for your device location — your explicit consent, which you give through your browser and can withdraw at any time.

To exercise any of these rights, contact us at info@countyatlas.org. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with a data protection authority — in Slovenia, the Information Commissioner (Informacijski pooblaščenec).

California (CCPA/CPRA)

If you are a California resident, you have the right to know what personal information is collected and how it’s used, to access or delete it, to correct it, and to opt out of the “sale” or “sharing” of your personal information — and not to be discriminated against for exercising these rights.

CountyAtlas does not sell or share your personal information and does not use it for cross-context behavioral advertising, so there is nothing to opt out of. To make a request to know, access, correct, or delete, contact us at info@countyatlas.org.

Children

CountyAtlas is a general-audience reference site, not directed to children (under 13 in the U.S., under 16 in the EU), and we do not knowingly collect personal information from them. If you believe a child has provided personal information, contact us at info@countyatlas.org and we will delete it.

Data security & retention

The site is served over HTTPS. We keep the little data we collect (chiefly server logs) only as long as needed for operation and security, then delete or aggregate it. No method of transmission or storage is perfectly secure, and we cannot guarantee absolute security.

Changes to this policy

We may update this policy as the site or the law changes; the “last updated” date above will reflect any revision. Material changes — such as introducing advertising — will be posted here before they take effect.
