Disclaimer
CountyAtlas works hard to be accurate — every figure is drawn from an official source and unreliable estimates are omitted rather than guessed. Even so, please read this before relying on anything here.
Not an official or government source
CountyAtlas is an independent project. It is not affiliated with, endorsed by, or a source of record for the U.S. Census Bureau, the Bureau of Labor Statistics, or any government agency. Where a legal or official determination matters — property lines, jurisdiction, taxation, voting, or eligibility — consult the relevant government authority and its official records, not this site.
Data accuracy & use at your own risk
The maps, tables, tools, and downloads are provided “as is,” for informational purposes only, with no warranty of accuracy, completeness, timeliness, or fitness for any purpose. Boundaries are simplified for display; statistics are estimates that carry sampling error and reflect a specific vintage; county lines, seats, and districts change over time; and geocoding or location results can be wrong near borders. Figures may contain errors or omissions.
You are responsible for verifying any figure against its primary source before relying on it, and CountyAtlas and its operator are not liable for any loss or damage arising from decisions made using this data. Do not use CountyAtlas for legal, financial, medical, emergency, navigational, or other high-stakes decisions. For how each figure is sourced and which are suppressed, see the methodology.
Data sources & licensing
The published dataset is built from federal public-domain data and Wikidata (CC0) only — no proprietary sources — which is what makes it freely reusable:
- U.S. Census Bureau— TIGER/Line boundaries and geography, Population Estimates (PEP), Small Area Income & Poverty Estimates (SAIPE), the American Community Survey (ACS), and the Census Geocoder. As works of the U.S. federal government, these are in the public domain.
- U.S. Bureau of Labor Statistics — Local Area Unemployment Statistics (LAUS). Public domain.
- Wikidata — county seats (property P36), each validated against a Census place inside its county. Wikidata is released under CC0 (public-domain dedication).
You are free to reuse the data, including commercially. Attribution to the original sources (and, if you like, to CountyAtlas) is appreciated but not legally required for the public-domain and CC0 material. The dataset is available as a documented CSV on the data page. The site’s own text, design, code, and rendered map images are separately copyrighted — see the terms of service. Official U.S. government trademarks and agency names are used only to identify sources and do not imply endorsement.
